Hucclecote Youth
Football Club

Hucclecote Youth Football Club is based at King George V Playing Fields, Hucclecote, Gloucester. The team were established in 1973, with its first season in the Gloucester Youth League being 1974/5.

Team colours of royal blue and yellow were taken from an early club sponsorship from Coles, a local Gloucester estate agent. However, rumour has it that the original team manager also supported Everton, for which blue and yellow were the away colours! Within age groups, we are represented by Hawks, Harriers and Hurricanes, which is in recognition of the City’s link to aviation; namely the Meteor, which was the first jet engine aircraft, developed by Sir Frank Whittle at the Gloucester Aircraft Company.

The first trophies won by the club were at under 12 with the Championship Trophy in 1976, followed by the under 14 Challenge Trophy, in 1979. The club has had its ups and downs, dropping to just one age group in 1981. Since then, under the chairmanship of Geoff Goodwin, the club has grown in size.

During the 1980’s the club developed links with clubs within Gloucester’s Dutch twin town, Gouda. Later, tours to Holland were organised with the help of the father of the former Chelsea and Holland goalkeeper, Ed de Goey.

HYFC is proud of its Charter Standard Status. Enjoyment of football in a safe and encouraging environment is promoted and upheld at all times by the committee, coaches, players and parents. This is underpinned by our Codes of Conduct which detail the behaviours that are expected.

HYFC is represented at various age groups in the Severn Valley Youth League, Cheltenham Youth League and MidGlos Youth League, with over 250 players, represented across all youth age groups.
